Cal Brings You the "Glen Times"

Hello Glen residents and readers. Have you missed me? I'm doing much better now.

Colleen and I will tell you all what happened soon and I'm sure you'll be as entertained as I was. She called me by my full name, Callum. Said no one else can do that but her and my mother.

It feels good to be back on my feet, that's for sure.

Let's cut to the chase.

Jeff is going to stay at the Glen. Good thing as you never know when you're going to need a plumber.

He's really going to make our Max-a-million happy with his deposit too, when he makes the transfer. Wait till you see what he does with it. Ceri and Bron get the news first.

Tori and Tom are prepared to settle too. Guess where? I'm singing that Divine Miss M song now 'and you got to have friends'.

Liana plans to do some gardening today but there's some digging in the dirt to be done and it doesn't include planting flowers. She's prepared to talk to Dan about it.

Marce wants her man home and she's prepared to go to bat for him. She gets help from Siobhan, maybe a little more than she expects.

Finally, East Driscoll spends a quiet moment doing what he does best, whispering to a horse.

Follow the links to read the latest stories from our lovely little hamlet in the Glen.

Glen Times Arrives On Time

I did remember to type the date correctly. It is 2009 but my check book is slightly messed up. At least I got it right where it counts. Do you think if I put 2008 on my checks they'll be voided for being over ninety days old?

No such luck, huh?

Anyway. tonight we have another wonderful trilogy of tales from Sir Robert and Julie St. John, or should I say Julianna? These two give off sparks and in more ways than one. They certainly are an attractive couple. Must be all those mud baths I tell you.

Ben and Liana share their Christmas with us in their installment. Seems they're both bookworms but there are two special gifts under the tree. One for each of them and perhaps a glimpse of the year to come.

Jimmy Braddock is up. No pun intended folks. I have too much respect for the man but, he is. It's all Ivy's fault.

Here's your links, dear readers.

New Years edition of the "Glen Times"

It's hard to believe that this is our last update for 2008, isn't it? It's been a couple of days since we've got one out but everyone is really busy this time of year. Well, we have one for you now so here goes.

Bud plays PI as his lovely wife tries to do the shopping. See hiow things go in this touching little segment of love and concern. Two words that seem to fit when you talk about Bud White and his lovely wife Marie.

Cindy has a surprise for Kim and he has one to offer as well. Could it be the holiday spirit or could it be something in the eggnog? Read on to find out.

Bridgid and Jack go out for a sail. It's what they do best with one exception. The first chapter of this multi part story may leave you wondering.

Jimmy Braddock is a magnificent man. You'll be able to tell in a short but heartfelt installment as he shows Ivy some sincere consideration.

Max and Bron with Ceri and Ed prepare to go on their holiday to Sydney. After and early departure from the wedding festivities its up up and away they go. Max sparred nothing for the group, providing a private jet , four star accommodations and brilliant company. It may be a bit much for Ed to handle right now. We shall see.

East is discovered sleeping in Maximus' stable. It scares the heck out of him until he finds out just what kind of man his 'host' is. Brekkie at Joimus' table is his gift for Christmas this year and he couldn't ask for anything more.

Sid picks up his date for the wedding but they encounter a little speed bump along the way. His name is Cal. Oh that's me. Hah, I'll show him who's the best man, aside from Jim that is.

Happy New Year everyone. Here's hoping your lives are full of good health and love for the upcoming year.

Cheers to all and thank you for following our adventures at the Glen. We've got so much more to look forward too in 2009.

Raise your glass, sing Auld Lang Syne then toast your old friends and your new ones.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed and played along to make ATCF, RCFF, LibrisCrowe and the Glen a success this year. May our next year be even more fun filled and successful.

Happy New Year.

Twilight

I saw Twilight last night. I really wasn't expecting much. I thought it would only play well to the tween girls. I do like vampire films if they're done well. This was not bad. It had enough vampire lore to make it interesting. Added some new ideas like vampires being outside during daylight hours which would make them more formidable and invincible.

Since the story really revolves around a romance the chemistry between the two leads is very important. Edward and Bella had a definite pull to one another. I wanted to know more about the other vampires in the 'Cullen' family and the rogue vampires, but there wasn't too much character development there. I don't know if there was more in the book or not. I haven't read any in the Twilight series. Let's just say it intrigued me enough to perhaps read it.

Beautiful settings and scenery from the Pacific Northwest. And it helped the vampires hide in the open. I'd give the film a B or B-. Slightly above average.

If you want to see a vampire film more intriguing in theaters right now Let the Right One In is a Swedish film about a 12 year old vampire and a neighbor boy who is subjected to school bullies and becomes her friend. Most definitely more violent and bloody than Twilight too. I'd give it the same B or B- rating but you remember it far longer than the beauty of the vampires in Twilight. It is in Swedish with subtitles.

BTW, last post for Slumdog Millionaire I knew there was one more film I wanted to mention as a must see this year. It was The Visitor with Richard Jenkins. Another great small movie. Completely character driven. So if the Academy members haven't seen them...Slumdog Millionaire, The Visitor, In Bruges and Iron Man. Those were the four best I've seen this year so far...
