New RCFF Update

Well, it's once again time for the main site update. Just a small one this time, but good stories as always. First up, we have Atonia with her new Sid 6.7 story:

VIRTUAL REALITY

Look out, Sid's out of the box. Has he really learnt to control himself?
******
Next up is Layne, with the eagerly awaited second chapter of her Ben Wade story:

THE TRAIN TO DESTINY

Katie finds out Ben's true identity. Will she turn him in or help him out?
******
Finally for this week, let's give a warm RCFF welcome to Sagaluthien. Some of you may have seen her work on other sites in the past. She has kindly sent us something to host. I think I'm right in saying that this is the first 'drabble' RCFF has had, and this one stars John and Alicia Nash:

BEING STRONG
******
Okie dokie, that's it for this week, short and sweet, but I alway say it's the quality, not the quantity that counts. Don't worry if you've got something for the main update or Port Auckland and you think you've missed out this week, remember...we don't have a deadline and are happy to do an extra update for any last minute submissions. Enjoy, ladies. Keep reading, keep writing...it wouldn't be the same without you.

Glen Times April 5th Edition

Hello everyone.

It's that time again. Our favorite actor is celebrating his birthday in two days but he and his lovely wife Dani are also celebrating their anniversary. Be sure to check out the cards page. It will be growing greatly within the next couple of days.

We have a pretty good update for you tonight with a lot of new characters to introduce so lets cut to the chase. First up we have that special page I was talking about.

Birthday and Anniversary Cards for Russ and Dani

Now on with the issue.

John Nash and Doc Knight

John knows what he needs and the doc has the capacity to help him.

Finding Nash

Toni Roberts and Gerry
10f.jpg

Toni has a little sit down with her half brother Gerry and he spills the beans on something interesting.

A Brotherly Visit

Andy's Staff
AliceHyatt.jpgActressNeveC_Granitz_14942696.jpgraoul-bova-58398.jpg

There's a whole passel of new employees at Andy's new restaurant. Check them out at the grand opening

Andy's at the Glen

Zack Grant

Zack has a few things on his mind, helping his host Alistair for one thing but what does 'Destiny' hold for him?

Calling Destiny

Alistair and Ahnna

Alistair is having his ups and downs. What can he feel, hear, remember? Time will tell but Ahnna is there for him.

Unreachable

The time has come for Alistair. His wife is at his side as he's waking but does he recognize her? Does he know what happened?

Just like the First Time

Libby and March

Libby bumps into someone and let me tell you March comes in like a lion and he sure does make a good first impression. Dan Evans, I have a message for you. If you snooze you lose.

Libby and March

Miss Peeg and Henry Jessup
austinpendleton-1.jpg

Another person has moved to the Glen. His name is Henry Jessup and he has an idea for the Glen and he shares it with Miss Peeg

The Corner Shop

Travis and Jan with Family
stmaryssydneysmall2.jpg

Travis and Jan tie the knot in a simple elegant ceremony. With family present and a toast from her grandpa, their life together is a new beginning.

The Wedding of Travis and Jan

Jack and B

The sail shop is open, kind of. B puts out a help wanted sign but she and Jack are not ready to take any calls...yet.

Blinded by the Light

Libby, Richie and Miss Peeg

Libby lucks out as she manages to rent a nice apartment above Richie's office. It's a perfect location for one thing. What was that about townhouses?

The Apartment

Jim, Ivy and Ian

There's a bit of an accident at the grocery. Its followed by something intentional. I sure wouldn't want to trade places with the perpetrator in this story. Getting on Jim Braddock's bad side is a fate worse than anything the sheriff would dish out.

Unsatisfactory Delivery

That's all there is that's fit to print tonight, everyone but we'll be back soon with our next issue of the Glen Times.

Enjoy the reading!

the fact that Robin Hood IS going to be filmed as well as the new look Russell
Himself is sporting. All of Russell's characters...yes ALL of them...have just crossed

John Forbes Nash, Jr.

Continuing with a week of posts on "A Beautiful Mind", the above video records a meeting between director Ron Howard and Professor John Nash. It's a very interesting segment, in which Dr. Nash explains Nash Equilibrium and bargaining theories. Compared to other videos, more of the real Nash comes through, as he warms to a subject which fascinates him. You see the man and his sense of humor.

There's a wealth of information about Dr. Nash on the web. His home page is at www.math.princeton.edu/jfnj

in the Department of Mathematics at Princeton University. His current research interests are given as logic, game theory, and cosmology and gravitation.

Other informational sites on Dr. Nash:

Nobelprize.org
has an autobiography, which was written by Dr. Nash in 1994, at the time he received his Nobel Prize.

The PBS website has a page dedicated to the documentary film "A Brilliant Madness", produced in 2002. The site has information on the film, as well as further information on Nash, his family, and his studies.

The Schizophrenia Daily News Blog has a 2005 interview with John Nash, in which he talks about his illness and his work. He and his wife, Alicia, both mention Russell.

"He thinks that Russell Crowe should have won an Oscar for his portrayal of him. It was the wrong accent, and they met only once during filming, but "his performance was terrific". Alicia adds: "We just love Russell Crowe. It was a great movie, but it was fictionalised."

Wikipedia's page on Nash contains information about both the man and the movie.

Movie of the Week: A Beautiful Mind

Before Georgia had a rare snow dumped on us and I lost my electricity and was unable to post, I had decided to start a new series focusing on one of Russell's movies each week. It was to begin with the posting of the movie each Monday. Well, I have to start on Tuesday this week, but the first Movie of the Week is A Beautiful Mind.

"At Princeton University, John Nash struggles to make a worthwhile contribution to serve as his legacy to the world of mathematics. He finally makes a revolutionary breakthrough that will eventually earn him the Nobel Prize. After graduate school he turns to teaching, becoming romantically involved with his student Alicia. Meanwhile the government asks his help with breaking Soviet codes, which soon gets him involved in a terrifying conspiracy plot. Nash grows more and more paranoid until a discovery that turns his entire world upside down. Now it is only with Alicia's help that he will be able to recover his mental strength and regain his status as the great mathematician we know him as today."

Russell In Empire Magazine

The April issue of Empire Magazine features a six-page spread on Russell, including an interview with Martyn Palmer, who first interviewed him 19 years ago. The interview was done during the filming of State of Play in Washington, D.C. Among other things, Russell talks about working with Ridley Scott and about gaining weight for roles. The spread also includes some great pictures, and a list of the Top 5 Russell Crowe Performances, selected by Dan Jolin. The April issue will be available in stores Thursday, February 26.

"Russell Crowe tells us about his triumphs, the things he missed out on and his turn in accomplished new thriller State of Play. Crowe has heralded a return of the rugged and brooding thinking man to Hollywood screens, from his Oscar-winning turn as Gladiator Maximus to the introverted and brilliant mathematician John Nash in A Beautiful Mind. He also tells us why Ridley Scott's Nottingham fits the bill to be one of his next projects--because "It's Robin Hood, mate. I mean, come on!""

Glen Times Update for February 22--Another Double Issue!

Whew! Lately, it seems every issue of the Glen Times has been a double issue! And I didn't think there'd be much news to cover in such a small community! Just goes to show how wrong you can be. Thanks to Cal and Colleen for hiring me and putting me to work right away. Now, if I could just find time to get out and search for a place to live! My first few days at the Glen have been so busy I barely have time to even sleep in my room at Millie's!

There's a lot of news to cover, so I'd best get started!

February 22nd, 2009

Jeffrey and Meggie have lots going on! We have three items on them tonight.

Meggie and Jeffrey

We all Fall Down

After the New Year's Eve party, these two discuss the past and the future. Will the past win out in their lives, or is the future so bright they gotta wear shades?

A Soft Place to Fall

Jeffrey takes sweet, tender care of Meggie following the Australia Day celebration. He's an absolute hero! But is being heroic always enough?

Rumor Has It

One line in an old Connie Francis song goes "Lipstick on your collar told a tale on you". This time, it's tellling Meggie a tale about Jeffrey! Is it a true story or just a fairy tale?

vlcsnap-322285.jpg

Bron, Ed and Toni

Ed's in Therapy

Ed has his first day in physical therapy. A relaxing whirlpool, a massage from Toni... We could all use some therapy like this! But Ed's beginning to think he needs another kind of therapy to go with it. Something that'll make him more accessible to Bron!

russ aa.jpg3b0de_cate-blanchett-1207-lg.jpgRC1075.jpg

Travis, Jan and Tee

Table Manners

Tee's still learning new things. With a guy like Travis to teach me, I could learn a few new things too! Sorry, Jan. No disrespect to you intended. And Travis' dad notices Joe Sweeney's back at the ranch. That, we could do without!

Ashley and Lachlan Curry

Lachlan's Surprise

Lachlan's got some wonderful surprises for Ashley. But she's got a few for him too! Both of them find they've got a lot to learn where pregnancy's concerned. 'Course, that's not really a surprise!

yummmy.jpgPROOF-9.jpg

Andy and Max Skinner

Andy and the Banker

Speaking of having a lot to learn, Andy's got to figure out what to do with his money--more than he's ever had before in his life--and he's looking for Max Skinner to help him out. Now, that's the kind of problem I'd love to have! Cub reporters do not get rich quick!

Sir Robert and Julie St John

A Book Yet Unwritten

Julie's feeling like a character in one of her novels, with Robert as her hero. Maybe you're not supposed to judge a book by it's cover, but man, Robert has quite a cover!

Abby Campbell

Gotta Pay the Bills

Abby, the other new reporter here, has got bills to pay just like me. And she needs to get past her past. Wait a minute... "Get past her past"? That's not right. But I do like the sound of it. And it sounds like Abby and I really do need to talk about Cal's offer to let us share the apartment he has for rent!

Abby Campbell with Colin O'Brian

Something Really Worth Celebrating

Abby's celebrating her new life in the tavern when she meets Colin, who's sort of, uh--celebrating- -his recent bad luck with Kate and everything else in life. In a weird sort of way, they seem to hit it off. Hope Abby's still available as a roommate!

John Biebe, Siobhan and Hando

Hando, Part 2

Sheriff Biebe and his deputy get a call for help from Hando. There's something amiss with Marce, but is Hando to blame?

John Nash, Millie

The Professor

Professor John Nash has an unforgettable introduction to the Glen. He came here to get away from demons, but have they followed him?

John Biebe, Siobhan and Doc Knight

A Death in the Glen

The Glen's first really tragic news. Marce has been murdered. The doc performs the post-mortem and, hopefully, will give Sheriff Biebe something to work with to catch the killer. If anyone has any information about this, please call the Sheriff's office immediately.

candid5.jpga russ18.jpg

Jan, Bill and Travis McGee, Joe Sweeny

A Squatter Nightmare

Bill Sweeney calls his son Travis about the murder at the lake. While Travis makes arrangements to get home quickly, Joe Sweeney lays low in the guest house.

That's all the news for today, folks. Sorry some of it is so bleak. Usually, I try to find the best in the news and make little jokes about it. But murder's no joking matter. I suppose it just goes to show you that, even in the Glen, life has it's dark side. But this is a great little community. We'll all pull together to straighten things out and make it safe again.

To our new resident, Professor Nash: Welcome, and remember that, after your shock is over, there are good, friendly people here and this is a nice place to live.

Is is just me, or does the week fly by for all of you as well? It doesn't seem possible that it was a weeks ago I sent the last update message out. Ah well, times flies when you're having fun, or so the old saying goes.

Okay, down to business then. We have a nice new batch of reading to keep you occupied today, so I hope you've all recovered from your romantic Valentine's Day meals with your loved ones, or the HUGE box of chocs you stuffed if you were on your own watching a DVD on the TV.
